On September 2, 3, and 4, renowned soloists of the Lviv National Philharmonic Violina Petrychenko (piano) and Lilia Nikitchuk (mezzo-soprano) gave brilliant performances of Ukrainian music in several German cities. Rare pearls of Ukrainian chamber-vocal lyrics were performed in Wesseling, Cologne, and Celle.
The musicians’ tireless energy and desire to make people fall in love with Ukrainian music prompted them to open a program with solo songs by romantic composers: Kyrylo Stetsenko, Hryhoriy Alchevsky, twentieth-century classics Yuliy Meytus, Kostyantyn Dankevych and Vasyl Barvinskyi, and to enchant the audience with a masterful performance of the premieres of works by our contemporary Valentyn Silvestrov.
A special page in the program of these concerts was the premiere of Silvestrov’s cycle “Five Songs on Poems by Ivan Franko” (2007).
