Color, light, air – French music is full of them, and its moods are as changeable as the shades of Impressionist paintings. However, the constancy of their works lies in their attention to timbres. It is not for nothing that this music often features the oboe timbre, which combines the expression of the entire family of wind instruments with the soft sound of wood.

The soloists of the concert, Stepan Syvokhip and Maksym Lymariev, will be the guides to the sounds of the French landscapes this evening. The program they have chosen is an echo of the late romanticism of Saint-Saëns’ music and fantasy images of Debussy’s piano preludes. The central content of the concert will be a dialog between two sonatas by Francis Poulenc, a member of the French Group of Six, and Pierre Sancan, a composer who experienced twentieth-century innovations in his music.
