The April evening at the Lviv Philharmonic brings together two powerful musical worlds — Jean Sibelius and Antonín Dvořák, composers whose music brought international recognition to Finland and the Czech lands, combining national colour with rich symphonic imagination.

Sibelius’s First Symphony reveals a wide emotional spectrum, from introspective lyricism to dramatic intensity. From the solitary clarinet solo at the opening to the restrained and thoughtful conclusion, the work unfolds through vivid orchestral colours and expressive contrasts characteristic of late Romanticism.

The highlight of the evening will be Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto performed by Raphaela Gromes. Written during the composer’s time in the United States, the work combines lyrical warmth, expressive depth and a subtle sense of nostalgia for his homeland. The soloist and orchestra engage in a sincere musical dialogue that culminates in a brilliant and energetic finale.
