The idea of the concert is simple — and in its simplicity, it is compelling. There is Bach’s First Cello Suite. Between its dances, like interludes, works of the 20th and 21st centuries are performed. Are they a commentary on Bach? A dialogue with him? A parallel existence? It is a single canvas from Prelude to Gigue, yet interrupted by fractures through which an entirely different world emerges.
Nazarii Stets first developed this project in 2017. Now it returns — renewed, with new names and with a world premiere that is being completed at this very moment.
Teppo Hauta-aho, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Stefano Scodanibbio are three composers well known in the world of contemporary music. In this programme, their works sound as equal voices in conversation with Bach.
Sonare by Mykhailo Chedryk will be performed for the second time, but this is its premiere in Lviv. Ritual by the young composer Venera is currently being completed. This evening presents its world premiere — music that did not exist until now.
