James Clark – tenor (USA-Germany)

Clark was born in Syracuse, New York and grew up in Northern New Jersey. He began piano instruction at five years of age and violin at eight. He received a Bachelor of Arts in instrumental music from Montclair State College and later a Masters in Voice and Opera from Manhattan School of Music. Mr. Clark made his professional debut in Carnegie Hall singing the tenor solos in Mahler’s Eighth Symphony with the Hartford Symphony. He then made his debut as soloist with the New York City Opera and sang over 70 different roles with the company. The tenor was the soloist with numerous symphony orchestras and other ensembles during this time, including the Long Island Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, New Haven Symphony, Bridgeport, Connecticut Symphony, Spokane Washington Symphony and the West Virginia Symphony. Mr. Clark was the featured soloist at Carnegie Hall in the Verdi Requiem and the Mozart Requiem.

The tenor auditioned in Germany in 1991 and became a member of the Hof Städtebundtheater in Northern Bavaria, Germany. Since then he has performed over 35 major roles including Erik in Wagner`s Der Fliegende Holländer to Massenet`s opera Werther singing the title role throughout Germany, Austria, Spain, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Clark sings with a lyric spinto voice that is flexible enough for a Duke in Rigoletto to heavier roles such as Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos. He sang both the role of Turridu and Canio in a double opera program of Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci with the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Grosse Musiksaale in Hamburg.
