Dmytro Choni – piano (Ukraine – Austria)

General information

Being the winner of numerous international piano competitions, Dmytro Choni already gained himself an international reputation as a concert pianist. He is the laureate of prestigious competitions, such as: Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition (Italy, 2017), International Piano Competition in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz (Ukraine, 2017), San Marino International Piano Competition (San Marino, 2016) as well as: 1st Prize at the Los Angeles International Piano Competition (USA, 2018), 1st Prize at the Roma International Piano Competition (Italy, 2017), 1st Prize at the San Sebastian City International Piano Competition (Spain, 2017), 2nd Prize at the Suzhou International Piano Competition (China, 2017), 1st Prize at the Tucumán International Piano Competition (Argentina, 2016), 1st Prize at the International Piano Competition “Stefano Marizza” (Italy, 2016), 1st Prize and Absolute winner at the International Piano Competition “Tribute to Jurica Murai” (Croatia, 2016), 1st Prize Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition “Ville de Gagny” (France, 2013), 1st Prize at the Alemdar Karamanov International Piano Competition (Crimea, 2009).

In 2017 Dmytro has received the “Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Prize” – an award given to him by the Piano Academy Eppan (Italy).

As a soloist, Dmytro Choni performed with prestigious Orchestras, such as the Republic of San Marino Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Francesco Ommassini, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Alain Paris, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine under the baton of conductors Volodymyr Sirenko and Vitaliy Protasov, the Tambov Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Mikhail Leontyev, and the Varazdin Chamber Orchestra.

He furthermore takes great joy in chamber music. Together with various Ensembles, he was invited to the “Colluvio” in Austria and the “Zeist Music Days” in the Netherlands, where he took part in masterclasses with Adrian Brendel, Mark Danel, and the Jerusalem Quartet.

Dmytro performed at the “Kissinger Sommer Festival” (Germany), the “Next Generation Classic Festival Bad Ragaz” (Switzerland), the “Harmonie Starego Miasta” in Poland and the “Kyiv Summer Music Evenings” Festival in Ukraine. Highlights of his career were performances at the Teatro Colon in Argentina and the “Kissinger KlavierOlymp” in Germany.

Dmytro Choni was born in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1993. His first piano lesson he received at the age of four from Galina Zaslavets. He studied in Kyiv with Nina Naiditch and Prof. Yuri Kot. Currently, he is a student at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in the class of Prof. Dr. Milana Chernyavska.

Dmytro is a scholar and a frequent participant in the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein. He has also received master classes from renowned musicians as Arie Vardi, Sergei Babayan, Pavel Gililov, Klaus Hellwig, Grigory Gruzman, Aquiles delle Vigne, Yakov Kasman and Oxana Yablonskaya.
