Ensemble Nostri Temporis

Founded in Kyiv in 2007 on the initiative of the composer and oboist Maxim Kolomiiets and composer and pianist Alexei Shmurak. It began its concert activity with cross-sectional presentations of musical avant-garde and modernism to the Kyiv audience, as well as programmes dedicated to 20th-century classics: Giacinto Scelsi and Bernd Alois Zimmermann. Subsequently the ensemble concentrated on promoting works by contemporary composers of various generations.

Since 2010, the ensemble has been headed by composer and music manager Bohdan Sehin. ENT is a frequent participant of all the major contemporary music festivals in Ukraine, regularly producing its own artistic projects, as well as performing internationally.

2011 saw the release of the audiobook Taras Prokhasko and Serhiy Zhadan read Czesław Miłosz, published with the support of the Polish Institute in Kyiv.

In the following year, the ensemble released their first CD, Live, comprising their best concert recordings from 2011-12.

In 2012 ENT initiated the annual International Masterclasses of New Music COURSE. In March 2013 ENT coorganised and performed at the Ukrainian Biennale of New Music. In 2016 ENT together with Gdańsk-based ensemble NeoQuartet recorded (under the joint name of Neo Temporis Group) the CD Dialogue Without Borders, released by Requiem Records. The CD includes five compositions: two by Polish and three by Ukrainian composers. Four of these were composed specifically for Neo Temporis Group, and the Ukrainian composers’ works were commissioned as part of the Polish programme Collections – Compositional Commissions.

By working closely with contemporary composers from different generations, ENT has helped promote many new artists and inspired new compositions, performed at numerous contemporary music festivals and as part of their own concert projects. The Ensemble is open to collaboration with artists and organisations working in every discipline of art. It initiates interdisciplinary projects combining new classical music with visual art, poetry, theatre and film.
