Oksana Lyniv – conductor (Ukraine-Austria)

General information

A Ukrainian conductor, first woman who had obtained a position of the Chief Conductor in Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra in the Austrian city of Graz when she managed to rise high in a seemingly male profession.

Presently, Oksana Lyniv is a Chief Conductor of Opera and Philharmonia Orchestra of Graz (Austria), founder and art director of the LvivMozArt Festival, Lviv (Ukraine), founder of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine.

Oksana Lyniv was born in Brody (Lviv region). In 2003, she graduated from the faculty of opera and symphony conducting at Mykola Lysenko Lviv State Music Academy, later, enhanced her conducting skills in University of Music Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden (Germany). She also held scholarships of prestigious European funds. In 2004, she made it into finals of the International Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition.

In 2008-2013, she worked in Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

In Ukraine, she worked together with Odessa National Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestras ‘Leopolis,’ “Lviv Virtuosos,’ ‘Kyiv Camerata’ and ’INSO-Lviv’ Academic Symphony Orchestra.

In 2013, she moved to Munich. During her activities as a conductor and music assistant of the music general director of Bavarian State opera Kyrylo Petrenko, she had staged classic and contemporary operas, such as by Mozart, Verdi, Donizetti, Rossini, Britten, Ruders, Blacher, Berchaide. She is a guest conductor for such leading opera theaters of the world as the Royal Opera in Stockholm, and the Liceu Opera Barcelona.

She worked together with many European orchestras of Germany, Austria, Sweden, Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain, Estonia, Romania, and Switzerland.

An important part of Oksana Lyniv’s projects belongs to performing the music by Ukrainian composers D. Bortnyanskyi, B.Lyatoshynskyi, M.Skoryk, Ye.Stankovych, B.Frolyak, Yu. Lanyuk, L.Sydorenko.

She was awarded with the ‘Star of the Year 2015’ title in nomination of ‘Classics’, and a prize of Munich Opera Festival. She is in the top-3 women conductors in the world of the young generation.
