Violist Giorgi Zagareli Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1986. Studied viola at Tbilisi, Detmold, Leipzig and Basel Musik Hochschules. He has performed with such a famous artists as Gidon Kremer, Andres Mustonen, Ariel Zuckermann, Marine Iashvili, Kolja Blacher, Giedre Dirvanauskaite, Andreas Zlabys, Mark Bouchkov, Tigran Mansuryan, Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi, Anita Rachvelishvili, Beka Gochiashvili, Nani Bregvadze, international ballet star Nino Ananiashvili, etc. As a soloist he has collaborated with the Georgian and International Symphony Orchestras and Choirs.
In 2014 he has recorded Giya Kancheli’s “Miniatures for Viola and Piano” with Nikoloz Rachveli as dedicatees.
He is the first to have executed works for viola by Berio, Feldman, Xenakis, Stravinsky, Penderecki, Ligeti, Hindemith, Walton, Schnittke, Pärt, Mansurian, Kancheli, Nasidze and Bardanashvili in Georgia.
In January 2016 Giorgi Zagareli received Georgia’s most prominent state prize, the Tsinandali Award, for his brilliant performance of Giya Kancheli’s “Styx” with Nikoloz Rachveli and Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra at the Young Euro Classic Festival at Berlin Konzerthaus in August 2015.
During 2018-2020 Giorgi Zagareli was a guest solo violist of Grammy-Award winner chamber orchestra “Kremerata Baltica” led by Gidon Kremer.
Together with Tbilisi Holy Trinity Cathedral Choir, Giorgi Zagareli has performed at Vatican’s Sistine Chapel St. Peter’s Basilica in 2023.
Giorgi has participated in the various Charity Concerts supporting Ukraine and Ukrainian people in 2022.
After taking a creative pause during 2023/24, Giorgi Zagareli made his comeback in 2025 with a tribute to the 90th Anniversary of Giya Kancheli.
Among all Giorgi collaborates with the various electronic, jazz, post punk, indie and hip hop artists.
Upcoming concerts include Giorgi Zagareli’s new electro-acoustic project, as well as participation at the Giya Kancheli’s Anniversary concerts in Georgia and abroad.
