The Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk turned 80! It is a great honour and gift of the destiny to be his contemporaries: having an opportunity to communicate with him, performing world premieres of his music, getting inspired by his love to life and admiring his delicate and to-the-point sense of humour. His Carpathian Concert, music to the film “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors”, the famous “Melody”, unparalleled songs “Don’t Step on Lilies-of-the-valley” or “Paint the Night for Me” became not only the favourite pieces for several generation of listeners but also an outstanding phenomenon in the contemporary Ukrainian music.

Maestro also holds a position of a Music Director of “INSO-Lviv” Symphony Orchestra and the orchestra musicians prepared a special gift on the occasion of Skoryk’s anniversary – recording and release of “Paganini by Arrangement” CD featuring Paganini’s 24 Caprices in arrangement for the big symphony arrangement by Myroslav Skoryk. The CD was released by the British label “Toccata Classics” in October 2018 and in November the CD was presented in the “Record Review” program of the prestigious BBC Radio 3. “These arrangements/ orchestrations sound so fresh and invigorating. Well worth the attention of orchestras worldwide and greater concert-hall exposure”.

This evening “INSO-Lviv” orchestra will perform the recorded Caprices under direction of Alexander Zemtsov who also took part in the recording.

The composer’s music legacy has a number of arrangements of popular classical music pieces by J.S. Bach, L. van Beethoven, F. Chopin, G. Puccini and other famous composers. One of the most prominent and voluminous is the transcription of the 24 Caprices cycle by N. Paganini for symphony orchestra. Due to the original and sometimes unexpected findings M. Skoryk managed to enrich the world-famous piece by a Romanticism-era Italian: colourful orchestration leaves a deep impression with a key role performed by the percussion section (almost 30 instruments including among others flexatone, thunderstorm and wind sounds, cow bells), while siciliana and tarantella rhythms perfectly blends with hot Latin-American dances, intonations of pop music and jazz.
