However, this year, the musicians of Ukraine were especially challenged to defend the values \u200b\u200bof art. The slogan of the whole Festival is <strong>\u201cUkrainian Muses Are Not Silent\u201d<\/strong>. They speak up loud on their cultural front.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For the first time ever, at the <strong>Opening of the Festival<\/strong>, a Mass for the dead will be performed. <strong>Volodymyr Syvokhip<\/strong>, director of the Myroslav Skoryk Lviv National Philharmonic, says: <em>\u201cThe choice of <strong>Mozart&#8217;s Requiem<\/strong> was provoked by tragic circumstances when civilians and our soldiers pass every day. The current performance by Chamber Choir \u201cGloria\u201d and \u201cINSO-Lviv\u201d Symphony Orchestra will be dedicated to all the sons and daughters of Ukraine who died for our future freedom.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The next concert performance on <strong>May 21<\/strong> is associated with a symbolic date \u2014 the period when Ukraine celebrates Europe Day. But the works contained in the program are exclusively Ukrainian and contemporary. This confirms the title of the event \u2014 for many years one after the other, and especially today, Ukraine is part of Europe, its cultural and historical heritage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Just created<strong> Bohdana Frolyak<\/strong>\u2019s Cello Concerto, Lviv premiere of <strong>Bohdan Kryvopust<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cUkrainian Overture\u201d (this work, written last year, won the All-Ukrainian Overture Competition) and <strong>Yevhen Stankovych<\/strong>\u2019s Second Symphony, \u2014 these three generations of Ukrainian composers will present their European integrated works.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Sunday, <strong>May 22<\/strong>, there will be two concerts. During the first, pianist <strong>Maria Bondarenko <\/strong>will present the program \u201cReminiscence\u201d. The time range of the program is two centuries of European music development. The pearl of the recital will be the music of <strong>Nestor Nyzhankivskyi<\/strong>. The <strong>second concert<\/strong> will feature a monumental work, <strong>\u201c<\/strong><strong>Stabat Mater<\/strong><strong>\u201d<\/strong> by <strong>Pergolesi. <\/strong>This composition, which has always been in the repertoire of the Lviv National Philharmonic during Holy Week, will be displayed in a new context. The music will become an expression of pain from the losses of the war \u2014 <em>\u201cMother of Sorrows stood at the True Cross, mourning the death of her crucified Son\u2026\u201d<\/em><em>. <\/em>The performers are <strong>Lviv State Academic Male Choir \u201cDudaryk\u201d<\/strong> and <strong>Lviv Virtuosos Academic Chamber Orchestra<\/strong> under the direction of <strong>Yurii Bervetsky<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A project dedicated to the piano cycle of seven pieces written by the famous French composer of the 20th century, <strong>Olivier Messiaen<\/strong>, will happen on <strong>May, 24<\/strong>. Today, <strong>\u201cVisions of Amen\u201d<\/strong> have a special symbolism, also because they were commissioned for the composer to be performed in Paris under occupation, in the series \u201cConcerts de la Pl\u00e9iade\u201d. This event, aimed at supporting musicians and uniting the musical community, has been called an act of artistic resistance for a long time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Presenting European classical heritage, the concert program on <strong>May, 25<\/strong> appears in two directions &#8211; instrumental and vocal. More vivid theatricality in music is characteristic of <strong>Bortnianskyi <\/strong>and <strong>Mozart<\/strong>; more focus on the personal feelings &#8211; in the music of <strong>Berezovskyi <\/strong>and <strong>Myslive\u010dek<\/strong>. And in addition, the music of <strong>Galuppi <\/strong>and <strong>Martini <\/strong>creates an opportunity for an unspoken audible comparison \u2014 did the students exceed the teachers?..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A piano recital by <strong>Jozsef \u00d6rm\u00e9ny<\/strong> on <strong>May, 26 <\/strong>will be a homage to <strong>Valentyn Sylvestrov<\/strong>&#8216;s creativity. As a result of full-scale Russian aggression, the composer was forced to leave his home in Kyiv and become a refugee in Europe. However, his music continues to sound, sharing the value of the moment, the fragility of human existence, and giving hope for life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Realizing the importance of popularizing Ukrainian music, the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, led by the famous Polish conductor <strong>Vincent Kozlovsky<\/strong>, will present <strong>Oleksandr Shymko<\/strong>&#8216;s concert overture \u201cExaltation\u201d. This work won the third prize in the All-Ukrainian Composer&#8217;s Competition \u201cUkrainian Concert Overture\u201d in 2021. Another iconic opus appears in the program, \u201cDeath and Transfiguration\u201d by <strong>Richard Strauss<\/strong>. On the way from inspired exaltation to spiritual transformation, the program offers to focus on the Violin Concerto No. 2 by <strong>Pierre Wissmer<\/strong>, performed by famous French violinist <strong>Eva Zavaro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Every year, the Lviv National Philharmonic traditionally celebrates the birthday of the most significant and famous composer of all ages \u2014 <strong>Johann Sebastian Bach<\/strong>. The 2022 honours the 337th anniversary of his \u201creign\u201d over music, and on this occasion, on <strong>May, 28<\/strong>, the \u201cVirtuosos\u201d presents a program of his most known works, played by young Lviv talents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite difficult times and martial law in Ukraine, the Festival maintains its international status. \u201cSpanish Serenade for Ukraine\u201d is a carefully selected program of pieces from the classical guitar repertoire. \u201cA musical trip that will take us to other times and will introduce different composers such as <strong>Aguado, Padilla, Albenis<\/strong>\u201d, says <strong>Rafael Serralet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The concert program of the last day of the Festival, on <strong>May, 29<\/strong>, \u00a0will represent chamber music traditions, ingrained in both European and Ukrainian cultures. <strong>Schubert&#8217;s \u201cTrout Quintet\u201d<\/strong> is at the forefront of the repertoire of various artists around the world. On the other hand, <strong>Barvinsky&#8217;s Variations<\/strong> are still less known, not only abroad, but also in Ukraine.
