The new recording “Bridge To Peace: Invocation” – a composition for cello, soprano and chamber orchestra by the American composer Kim D. Sherman – was performed by the musicians of the Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the chamber ensemble “PREformances”, led by conductor Benjamin Alan Loeb. The soloists were internationally renowned performers Allison Charney and Will Liverman (vocals), Kelly Hall-Tompkins (violin) and Peter Seidenberg (cello).<\/p>\n

In this piece, Kim sets the phrase “Make Peace on All Your Lands” in 15 different world languages – all spoken by people who live in her amazingly diverse neighborhood of Washington Heights. As the Allison Charney says, “What I want to stress is that in order to set these phrases just right, Kim had to do a heck of a lot of listening. And listening – a skill often paradoxically overlooked in a musical education – is something at which Kim is a genius.<\/div>\n
She hears the beauty on the streets of her neighborhood, in the breathtaking expanse of this vast country, in the poetry of texts from all the world’s great religions – and somehow translates those often ordinary sounds into the most extraordinary music. What’s even more astounding is her ability to listen – really listen – to the musicians she graces with her compositions”.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
