On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Mykola Kolessa’s birth
Son of the Century – these words describe the memory of the outstanding Ukrainian artist Mykola Kolessa (1903-2006). Named in honor of Lysenko, he inherited the traditions of a prominent musical family and combined his life with composition and conducting. At the same time, he was fond of painting and was a skillful and thorough researcher of folklore: our listeners will have the opportunity to see this on December 6! The pieces selected for performance by the Galician Academic Chamber Choir (conducted by Vasyl Yatsyniak) will open up the colorful palette of the Ukrainian musical heritage of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. You will hear arrangements of folk songs by Kolessa himself, time-tested works by Liudkevych, Barvinskyi, Kos-Anatolskyi, as well as original compositions by our contemporaries Bohdana Froliak, Ostap Manuliak, Bohdan Sehin, Oleksandr Kozarenko, and, of course, Myroslav Skoryk.
Treat yourself to a meeting with the choral universe of incredible beauty and depth!
