In February 2025, Jam Factory Art Center hosted the presentation of the new edition of the COURSE masterclasses, during which artistic director Bohdan Sehin and coordinator Dzvenyslava Safian reflected on the results of the project’s previous nine years. Mentors including Alla Zahaykevych, Sławomir Wojciechowski, and Luxa shared their experience, while young composers presented their artistic ideas.
The project is supported by Ulysses Platform and Creative Europe
The highlight of the opening was a performative lecture presenting the album LIMBO by Viktoriia Vitrenko. Throughout the week, participants worked in consultations and rehearsals with Ensemble Nostri Temporis, marking an important stage in the professional development of emerging composers.
Over more than a decade, COURSE has become a platform for the creation of new Ukrainian music, the discovery of new compositional voices, and the development of a collaborative environment bringing together composers, performers, and scholars.
A natural continuation of this activity is reflected in new international initiatives of the Lviv National Philharmonic. In 2026, a collaboration with Warsaw Autumn and NeoArte Synthezator Sztuki will commission two Ukrainian composers to create new works. The premieres will take place in Warsaw, Gdańsk, and Lviv, including within the framework of the Contrasts International Contemporary Music Festival.
Another focus will be the series of events Pro et Contra in Lviv (April–September 2026), featuring solo programmes by young performers, grants-in-aid for senior composition students from conservatories in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, and Odesa, as well as pre-concert discussions involving composers and musicologists.
