The anniversary, tenth edition of the COURSE masterclasses will be held from February 17 to 22.
COURSE is the first regular international masterclasses for young composers in Ukraine, launched in 2012. Their goal is to activate the activities of primarily Ukrainian composers, to provide them with the opportunity to gain additional important knowledge in the process of communication and active creative work with invited famous European composers-mentors and musicians of the Ensemble Nostri Temporis, and to stimulate further professional growth. Over the past nine years of the event, more than 50 young composers from Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Greece, Turkey, and South Korea have become participants, who have now become world-famous artists.
This year, the mentors of the event are world-famous composers Alla Zagaykevych from Ukraine, Sławomir Wojciechowski from Poland, and Luxa (Martin Schüttler) from Germany.
Five young composers from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, Cherkasy and Ternopil were selected to participate from among 14 candidates. They are just beginning their creative journey, receiving education at the music academies of Dnipro, Lviv and Kharkiv National University of Arts. These are Yelyzaveta Voloshyna, Anna Hurina, Denys Kucher, Maksym Ivanov and Fedir Pershko.
The format of the master classes is morning, afternoon and evening events, both public (presentations, lectures, discussions, concerts) and individual classes with teachers and consultations with performers. After three online sessions during December and January, as well as intensive work on writing new works, the participants will meet in Lviv for consultations with mentors and rehearsals with performers from the contemporary music ensemble “Ensemble Nostri Temporis”: Nataliia Kozhushko-Maksymiv (flute), Taras Hamar (clarinet), Andrii Pavlov (violin), Nazarii Stets (double bass), Maksym Shadko (piano).
On February 17, from 12:00 to 15:00, the Jam Factory Art Centre will host the Opening of the 10th edition and public presentations of the event’s creative plans from the organizers, mentors and participants. An exclusive project within the event will be a performative lecture-presentation of the album “LIMBO” by the famous Ukrainian singer Victoria Vitrenko.
From February 18 to 21, closed classes with teachers and performers will continue at the Lviv Philharmonic, and on February 22 at 18:00, the final concert will be held at the Lyudkevych Concert Hall, which will feature world premieres of new music.
