Music by Ukrainian composers to be performed in London

This April, fans of Ukrainian music in London will have the opportunity to enjoy two events organized in cooperation with the Lviv Philharmonic.

On April 21, soloist Violina Petrychenko will present her solo program “Spirit of Ukraine” at St. Vera’s Church. The program will feature music by Vasyl Barvinskyi, Levko Revutskyi, Valentyn Silvestrov, and Alla Sirenko, as well as music by Grieg, Schumann, and Chopin.

  • On April 23, with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Society, the London String Orchestra will perform works by Lviv composers for the first time in the UK at the Marylebone Theater under the baton of Volodymyr Syvokhip: Stanislav Liudkevych’s “Silent Remembrance”, Mykola Kolessa’s suite “In the Mountains”, Yakiv Stepovyi’s “Prelude to the Memory of Shevchenko”, and Alla Sirenko’s “Elegy”. Together with soloist Violina Petrychenko, they will perform Vasyl Barvinskyi’s Piano Concerto, and with young Ukrainian flutist Sofiia Matviienko, they will perform Mozart’s and Mendelssohn’s concertos. The event will be moderated by BBC journalist Kasia Madera.

Both concerts are a charity initiative, and all funds raised will be used to help Ukrainian orphans.
