On July 13, on the birthday of the outstanding composer, patron of the Lviv National Philharmonic Myroslav Skoryk, a concert in his memory will be held. Traditionally, this evening is the closing of the philharmonic season.

Despite the criminal actions of the aggressor country, the 121st season was fateful for the Lviv National Philharmonic. Despite shelling and blackouts, the philharmonic hall invited listeners to its hall every week, and the artists and groups of the philharmonic gave even more emotions, talent, and hope, and introduced listeners all over the world to Ukrainian music even more. We are indebted to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for every performance that took place.

At the end of a busy philharmonic year, the Academic Symphony Orchestra prepared a grandiose program by Myroslav Skoryk, Bohdana Frolyak and Maurice Ravel. The works are united by the changing and imaginative idea of dance: Alborada and Waltz by Maurice Ravel can be interpreted differently, as the composer noted. “…If some see the waltz as an attempt at parody, even a caricature, then others are categorically convinced of its allusion… This dance can seem tragic, like any other emotion taken to the extreme. But one should see in it only what music expresses: the upward progression of sound to light and movement.” Myroslav Skoryk’s suite to Lesia Ukrainka’s drama Fireplace Master reveals the colors of the Maestro’s talent – it is the extraordinary theatricality of his music Spanish Dance as one of its numbers – is a unique fusion of habanera and bolero, reinterpreted in themes and melodies that remain in the memory for a long time. And Elegy will surprise you with the artist’s sincere lyrics.

Bohdana Frolyak’s concert for oboe and symphony orchestra will be performed for the first time in Ukraine. The work was written in 2022 at the request of the Ukrainian oboist, soloist and concertmaster of the Washington National Opera Ihor Leshchyshyn.

We invite you to share with us the last evening of the 121st season,
which has already became history!
