Kenji Wakai, Tenor

General information

He graduated from masters degree course of post graduate school  of Tokyo University of Arts.

When he was a student, he debuted as a soloist of “Revived Beethoven’s Symphony No.9”  at Naruto City where German P.O.W firstly played the Symphony in a war prison there in 1918. The concert was nationally broadcasted by JAPAN TV.

He has been on the stages also abroad in Austria, Bulgaria and Ukraine.  He played with Bucharest Philharmonic and Stara Zagora Opera Symphony Orchestra.

He acted major roles in many operas like “Carmen” and “Cavalleria Rusticana”.

In 2014 he produced a Japanese Opera “Ougi no Mato”. In 2018 he brought it to Bulgaria as the first overseas performance from Shikoku Japan and gained great success.

He ever made his solo recital 4 times in Tokyo and another cities in Japan.

In 2000 he studied at Graz University, Australia and Munich, Germany as a scholarship researcher sent by Ministry of Culture, Japan.

He is the director of Shikoku Nikikai Opera and a professor of Kagawa Univeristy.
