Roman Yusypey – bayan (UА – DE)

General information

Bayan player Roman Yusypey was born in 1979 in Kherson. In 2006 he graduated from Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, class of Professor Mykola Davydov. In 2009-2012 he had his music internship at The Hanover University of Music and Drama under supervision of Professor Elsbeth Moser; in 2013-2016 at Folkwang University of Arts in Essen under supervision of Professor Mie Miki. Roman received scholarships from The International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation and Lions Club International. He took part in the 9th Premio di Montese International Competition in Italy where won 1st prize and the 1st International Competition “Golden Accordion” in New-York (2nd prize).

Roman has set on tours in Germany, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Japan, Kazakhstan and Malta. He delivered lectures at Cracow and Lviv Music Academies, was a guest Professor at Kazakh National Academy of Music. Roman was a jury member at the International Accordionist Competition in Lanciano, Italy.

As a soloist he has played about 100 concerts under direction of such conductors as Roman Kofman, Bogodar Kotorovych, Volodymyr Sirenko, Volodymyr Syvokhip, Stanislav Velianyk, Valeriy Matiukhin, Volodymyr Runchak, Raymond Janssen and others. He actively collaborates with the contemporary composers, has played a range of premiere performances of pieces for bayan. He successfully implemented a number of art projects at the international festivals of new music. Roman Yusypey is an author of the audio anthology “Ukrainian Music of the 21st century for bayan” (2015).
