Myroslav Skoryk — аrtistic director

General information

Myroslav Skoryk finished Lviv National Musical Academy named after Mykola Lysenko ( a composition class of S. Lyudkevych, R. Simovych and A. Soltys), completed a postgraduate course at Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory (a class of a professor D. Kabalevsky). Since 1963 at Lviv Conservatory and since 1966 at Kyiv Conservatory named after P. Tchaikovsky, M. Skoryk had been delivering lectures on music theory and composition. Since 1984 – he had been a professor Petro Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, a head of the composition department at Lviv National Musical Academy named after Mykola Lysenko. Since 1968 – a secretary  of the Ukrainian Composers’ Union. Since 1989 – a chief operating officer at Lviv organization of the Ukrainian Composers’ Union. Since 2011 – an artistic director at the National Opera House of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko in Kyiv. Since 2009 Myroslav Skoryk has been an artistic director at the International Symphony Orchestra “INSO-Lviv”.

Skoryk is one of the most celebrated representatives of the modern composers’ generation.His music, which combines national colour and modern music technique, is a part of numerous Ukrainian and foreign performers’ repertoire. In particular, there are “Hutsul tryptykh”, “Carpathian concert” for a chamber orchestra, three piano and eight violin concerts and a concert for a cello with a chamber, seven partitas for different memberships, two sonatas for violin and piano, numerous compositions for piano, violin and chamber ensembles. His “Melody” A minor got the broad popularity. It is performed in different transcriptions.

Skoryk – the author of music for S. Parajanov’s film “Tini zabutykh predkiv’’, which is esteemed as one of the best twelve films of all time. Works of a composer is performed in the USA, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Baltic states. He often performs his own compositions as a conductor and a pianist. M. Skoryk’s music works are dedicated to problems of composer’s harmony in the 20th century. M. Skoryk created a range of monumental compositions among which Wind instruments concert for a mixed choir a capella and soloists, the opera “Moses”, adapted from I. Franko’s poem of the same name and ballets “Crossroad”, “Caprice”, which are performed on stage of the National Opera of Ukraine, a ballet of G. Puccini and M. Skoryk “Return of Butterfly” (The Solomiya Krushelnytska Lviv State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet), cantata “Hamaliya” (on the versese of T. Shevchenko) for a mixed choir, soloists and symphony orchestra.

Skoryk – an initiator and co-founder of numerous international music festivals including “Ukrainian music of abroad”, “American and Ukrainian music days in Lviv”, “Memory of the Holodomor victims – Ukrainian composers”, International festival of modern music “Contrasts”. Also he was a head of panel in the international performer competitions, International festival “Kyiv Music Fest”.

The great composer M. Skoryk is a Hero of Ukraine, a People’s Artist of Ukraine, a laureate of Shevchenko National Prize, a Commander of the Order of Honour Symbol, awarded The Order of Merit of I, II and III grades, an academician at the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine.
