Ukrainian guitarist and composer. Born in Dnipro.
In 2008, he graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk Conservatory named after M. Glinka (classical guitar – class of Yu. Radzetskyi; composition – class of V. Martyniuk). In 2011, he graduated from the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts (classical guitar – class of A. Ostapenko).
Prize-winner of the International Classical Guitar Competition (Kyiv, 2005),
Grand Prix winner of the All-Ukrainian Competition of Folk Instrument Performers in the classical guitar category (Kirovohrad, 2006),
Laureate of the L. Revutsky Inter-State Competition for Young Composers (Chernihiv, 2008).
Participant in the experimental music project “Supremus,” the rock band “SЮR Band,” and the electro-acoustic guitar duo “Big Second.” Founder, artistic director, and conductor of the only “Ukrainian Improvisation Orchestra” in the country, working in the genres of contemporary academic music, avant-garde, free improvisation, and free jazz.
Together with his brother, bassist Serhii Radzetskyi, Dmytro Radzetskyi created and successfully реализed the following projects:
– Sound performance projects: “Guitar Hallucinations” (Dnipro, 2010; Kyiv, 2011; Kharkiv, 2012; Lviv/Kropyvnytskyi, 2015), “Noise Painting” (Dnipro/Kyiv, 2010)
– Happenings: “Malevich in Space” (Dnipro, 2009), “Dadaism” (Dnipro, 2010), “Ground Music I” and “Ground Music II” (Kyiv, 2014)
– International Festival of Contemporary and Improvisational Music “Free Fest” (Kyiv, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018)
– With the support of the new music agency “Uho,” a three-day festival dedicated to the 150th anniversary of French composer Erik Satie was held, featuring the first performance in Ukraine of Satie’s “Vexations,” lasting 24 hours (Kyiv, PLIVKA, 2016)
– “Avant Floyd” program – original fantasies on the music of Pink Floyd, performed together with musicians of “Okean Elzy,” Miloš Jelić and Denys Hlinin (Kyiv, 2015)
– “Hommage a Miles Davis,” a concert dedicated to the 90th anniversary of jazz trumpeter and composer Miles Davis (Kyiv, 2016)
– Audio-visual project at the Kyiv Planetarium “Shakespeare in Space,” dedicated to the birthday of William Shakespeare
In 2013, the debut album of the “Supremus” project titled “Artifacts,” inspired by the Strugatsky brothers’ novel Roadside Picnic, was released.
Over the years, Dmytro and his projects have participated in festivals such as Gogolfest, Jazz Koktebel, Nimi Nochi, Porto Franko, ZixZixZone, Monofest, 16+, Donkult, and Book Arsenal. Within the “RADZ” music project, three successful European tours were completed (2016, 2017, 2019).
Since 2017, together with composer Maksym Kolomiiets, he has co-founded the creative art space “KORA” at the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre. Its activities include educational events and concerts of contemporary academic, jazz, rock, and electronic music.
He has performed concerts and participated in festivals of academic, experimental, jazz, and rock music in many cities across Ukraine, Poland, Germany, the USA, Israel, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Netherlands.
Dmytro Radzetskyi’s works have been performed at international festivals, competitions, and concerts in various cities across Ukraine and Europe. He is the author of chamber, orchestral, electro-acoustic, and rock compositions, music for short films, radio and television programs, and arrangements for folk instrument orchestras. As a solo classical guitarist, he performs his own compositions as well as works by contemporary academic composers from Ukraine and around the world.
He is the author and developer of unique 8- and 10-string MIDI Radz guitars, combining classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, and synthesizer. In various projects, he has collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Markus Reuter (King Crimson), Phil Minton, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Ed Mann and Denny Walley (Frank Zappa Band), Dan McCafferty (Nazareth), John Lawton (Uriah Heep), Graham Bonnet (Alcatrazz), and Bang on a Can All-Stars.
