Gaddiel Dombrowner – conductor (Israel)

General information

French-Israeli conductor Gaddiel Dombrowner, is a 1st prize and orchestra prize winner of the 3rd Turchak Conducting Competition in Kiev (2017) and was described as “mature, intelligent, very sensitive and emotional musician” by Kiev’s music journals critics. Gaddiel is starting currently an international career with debuts in China, Europe and Israel and has worked in the past as assistant conductor at the Cleveland Opera Theater while conducting in productions such as Puccini’s La Boheme and Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro. Gaddiel is a resident faculty conductor for the summer piano festival of MusicFest Perugia, Italy directed by famous pianist Ilana Vered.

Among the many orchestras Gaddiel has conducted are the National Academic Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Kunming International Philharmonic (China), Vaasa Symphony Orchestra (Finland), Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, South Denmark Philharmonic, Galilee Chamber Orchestra (Israel), Virtuosi Brunensis orchestra (Czech Republic), CIM Symphony Orchestra (USA), Alicante Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (Spain), Croatia Chamber Orchestra and Ashdod Symphony Orchestra.

He participated in masterclasses among many with Jorma Panula, Mark Stringer, Maurizio Arena, Gianluigi Gelmetti and Collin Metters. In recent Competitions Gaddiel has advanced to the semi-finals of the 7th Jorma Panula Competition and the 1st European Union Competition.

Born in France, with a true passion for the French music, Gaddiel has premiered in Cleveland Saint- Saens’ Symphony No.2 and Milhaud’s Chamber symphonies which have never been performed there before. His last project in Kyiv with NASOU also revived Franck’s “Le Chasseur Maudit” in the city.

Gaddiel sees great importance in new music repertoire and recently conducted the premiere of Eyal Baat’s newest opera (in Hebrew) “Insane Indik” during the 2018 IMVAJ opera masterclasses of Rona Israel-Kolat. He also has worked with young composers such as Alexander Malikov, Jiri Tritik and Qingye Wu during his residence in Cleveland, as well as with Israeli composers Israel Sharon, Talia Amar, Yasmin Tal and Omri Avram to name a few.

Gaddiel is an accomplished Clarinet player in both chamber and orchestral music. He received awards for his clarinet performance including The Dean of Performance Faculty prize in 2008 and prizes in chamber music competitions for the years 2008 & 2009, both at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. He performed as a principal clarinet player with the Herzelyia Chamber Orchestra and the Symphonette Raanana.

Gaddiel received scholarships for his studies from the Israeli Ronen Foundation and the Casip-Cojasor in the Music Field for the year 2011-2012. He is a Master graduate from the Cleveland Institute of Music in Conducting under the tutelage of Mr. Carl Topilow (2017) and has a double Bachelor Degree in Music at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance in Conducting with Dr. Eugene Tsirlin (2013) and in clarinet with Prof. Ilan Schul (2009). Gaddiel currently lives in Jerusalem, Israel.
