HOMIN Lviv Municipal Choir

HOMIN Lviv Choir founded in 1988 at the Regional Department of the Music Society of Ukraine, later on it represented the regional Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian Language Society and was a choir-in-residence at the Regional People Arts Centre of Hnat Khotkevych Palace of Culture and Lviv Railway Palace of Culture. Since 2003 HOMIN Lviv Municipal Choir functions under jurisdiction of the Lviv City Council Department of Culture.
The choir has completed many concert tours in Ukraine and abroad, including performances in Lublin Music Academy (2004), Festival of Sacred Music in Przemysl (Poland, 2005), 15th International Choir Sacred Music of Byzantine in Prešov (Slovak Republic, 2006), 4th International Choir Festival “Peredzvin” in Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine, 2006); it became a laureate of the 1st Y. Kozak Regional Festival – Competition (Drohobych, 2007) and D. Sichynskyi All-Ukrainian Competition (Ivano-Frankivsk, 2007), 1st International Choral Music Festival “Lviv Encounters” (Lviv, 2008), O. Suprun Regional Festival (Drohobych, 2008), International Choral Music Festivals “East – West – Approaching” (Radomsko, Poland, 2007, 2009, 2014), International Festival “Dni Muzyki Cerkiewnej RYDZYNA – 2010” (Rydzyna, Poland, 2010), as well as in such festivals as “Velyka Kolyada” (Lviv, 2007, 2008, 2009), “Virtuosi” and “Contrasts” (Lviv, 2010, 2011).
In May 2011 the choir gave successful concerts in the program “Lviv Days in Cracow”, took part in the 4th International Choral Music Festival (Garwolin, Poland, 2011) and in the 11th International Choir Encounters in Gizycko, Poland, 2011, 2017).
The HOMIN choir gave concerts with the solo program at the All-Ukrainian Festival “Prykarpatska Vesna” (April 2011, Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Philharmonia) and as a part of the festive events on occasion of the 40th anniversary of the “Cranes” (“Zhuravli”) Choir of the Ukrainians Union in Poland (August 2012, Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw); took part in the Gala Concert “Viva Ukraine” and festivities on occasion of the 50th anniversary of Wroclaw Division of the Ukrainians Union in Poland (December 2012, Wroclaw).
In 2013 the choir took part at the 4th Christmas Festival “Kolyada on Maizli” (Ivano-Frankivsk), celebration of the City Days in Gogolin and Opole (Poland), 1st Polish-Ukrainian Festival “Our Halychyna” (Cracow, Poland). In 2014 the choir took part in the International Habaneras and Polyphony Festival – Competition (Torrevieja, Spain).
In cooperation with the Department of Culture of Lviv City Council the choir organized several choir festivals in Lviv: International Choral Music Festival “Lviv Encounters” (2008, 2016, 2018) and Regional Choir Festival “Praise the God from the Heaven” (Lviv, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017), Christmas Program (Wroclaw, 2018) and the concert to commemorate the centenary of West-Ukrainian People’s Republic and the Polish Army (Koszalin, Poland, 2018).
The choir repertoire is rich and versatile with the pieces which form independent programs: “Spiritual Music”, “Kolyady and Schedrivky”, “Choral Pieces on the poems of T. Shevchenko”, “Music by the Ukrainian classical composers”, “Foreign choral music”, “Patriotic Songs”.
The key goal and task of HOMIN Lviv Municipal Choir is to promote choral and music culture of Lviv and Ukraine, organize international events and establish contacts with various musical ensembles and soloists both in Ukraine and abroad. Its activity is aimed at development of the nation spirituality, strengthening of its national awareness, support and promotion of the authentic Ukrainian song culture and its presentation around the world.
