Ivan Lykhovyd — double bass

General information

Ivan Lykhovyd was born in 1989 in Sumy, Ukraine. In 2002 he graduated from music school as pianist. In 2004, he entered the Sumy College of the arts and culture named after D.S. Bortnyansky at the faculty of string instruments, double bass class, senior lecturer M.O. Nedaykhlib. During his studies, he actively participated in concerts, recitals, competitions and music festivals. Winner and laureate of international music competitions (“Kharkivski Asambleyi” Kharkiv, Ukraine 3rd prize (2006), 1st prize (2008), International Music Competition in Donetsk, Ukraine 2nd prize (2007)).

In 2007, with student chamber orchestra under conducting by Roman Khominich, he performed G. Bottesini Concerto for double bass and orchestra b-minor.

In 2008, he entered the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P.I Tchaikovsky, prof. B.V. Soyka, from which he graduated with honors in 2013. From the first years of studying in Kyiv, he started to gain experience in professional music orchestras, such as National Broadcast Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, National Opera and Ballet Theater of Ukraine named after T.G. Shevchenko, Opera Studio of National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P.I Tchaikovsky.

In 2010 started to work in National President’s Orchestra of Ukraine in double bass section.

In November 2010 he passed the audition to National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, where he was working until 2017. With National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine has participated in many international festivals and tours within countries such as Canada, China, Japan, USA, moreover Western and Eastern Europe countries. In 2016 as principal of double bass section, Ivan has recorded Borys Liatoshynskyi’s Symphony no. 1 (conductor Volodymyr Sirenko).

In 2017 Ivan was invited to work in Kunming International Philharmonic as co-principal double bass. In 2018 during Kunming International Music Festival and Workshop performed on the stage of Kunming college of the arts K. Dillmann – 6 Bagatelles for two double basses (with P. Blahyi). In March 2018 in the Kunming college of the arts performed D. Dragonetti – Duet for cello and double bass (I. Haracic – cello).

In September 2021 Ivan won the audition to Lviv National Theatre of Opera and Ballet where is working until now. In April 2022 together with invited musicians from «Kyivska Kamerata» (K. Bondar – violin, V. Buhrak – viola) and also musicians from Lviv Opera (D. Lysko – violin, M. Sehedenko – violoncello) Ivan played a concert dedicated to B. Liatoshynskyi. The performance was held in Lviv Opera, special guests: conductor, composer, cultural manager I. Ostapovych and PhD in Art Studies,  Liatoshynskyi Club Councilor T. Homon.

Ivan has great experience playing in the symphony orchestra and is well acquainted with world classic opera and symphonic repertoire.
