Mariia Stokolias – mezzo-soprano

General information

She was born on September 18, 1980 in Lviv.

From 1987 to 1998 she studied at the Lviv Music Secondary Specialized Boarding School named after S. Krushelnytska, majoring in piano. From 1998-2001 she studied at the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy, majoring in piano with Professor Jozsef Ermin and Associate Professor Iryna Pyzhyk. In 2002, she left her studies. Since 2005, she has been working as an accompanist at the Budivelnyk Children’s and Youth Sports School. In 2007, she entered the Kyiv National University of Cinematography and Television Arts, majoring in film and television directing. In 2018, she resumed her studies at the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy, majoring in pop and jazz vocals. In 2020, she received her bachelor’s degree, and in 2022, her master’s degree. In 2021, she was awarded a scholarship from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Since 2022, she has been working as an assistant senior lecturer at the Department of Jazz and Popular Music at the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy, enters the PhD program and begins working as a senior lecturer at the Department of Jazz and Popular Vocals.

In April 2022, she was one of the signatories of an appeal by the Ukrainian musicological community calling on musicians around the world not to deal with Russian culture until the end of the war.

From 2007 to 2015, she was a soloist of the vocal trio Kraynya Khata under the direction of Honored Artist of Ukraine Lyubov Fitio. As a member of the trio, she gave 8 solo concerts at the Lviv State Philharmonic, participated in the following festivals: “Karpackie Klimaty” (Krosno, Poland), “Pidkamin” (Pidkamin village, Lviv region, Ukraine), “St. Andrew’s Evenings” (Prague, Czech Republic), “Serce w dłoniach” (Poland-Slovakia).

As part of a trio, she recorded the album Roses on the Platform in 2011. She directed three of the band’s videos.

Since 2015, she has been collaborating with the band Medorkestra.

On March 7, 2023, she performed at a concert of French music at the Solomiia Krushelnytska Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

On March 16, 2023, she performed at the Lviv Philharmonic in a concert in memory of Volodymyr Ivasyuk.

On May 11, 2023, together with the best musicians of Ukraine Usein Bekirov, Ivan Lokhmaniuk, Serhii Hurin, Max Myakush, Yaroslav Kazmirchuk, Daria Kudryk, and Anastasia Bondarenko, she implemented the solo project “Our Flower” dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Kvitka Tsisyk on the stage of the Mariia Zankovetska Theater.
