Mykhailo Zakharov was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine. At the age of six, he began to study the violin.
He finished, with honours, Kharkiv Special Musical School where he studied violin with Vladimir Swichkarenko.
He then entered the Gnesins’ Russian Academy of Music, attending the class of Prof. T. Berkul. From 2005 he continued his studies at the Graz University of Music, Austria, with Prof. Boris Kuschnir (violin) and Prof. Chia Chou (chamber music), from which he graduated with honours, receiving his Master’s Degree.
He is a holder of various fellowships, including Stipendium der Stadt Graz, Gesellschaft der Freunde and Martha Debelli Stiftung.
Mykhaylo holds prizes awarded by the “International Music Festival” (Bled, Slovenia), International Beethoven Wettbewerb (St. Pölten, Austria) and Fidelio Wettbewerb (Vienna, Austria).
Zakharov has taken part in a number of International Music Festivals, including Les Rencontres Musicales Festival (Switzerland), Kharkiv Music Fest (Ukraine), Kyiv Music Fest (Ukraine), Eilat Chamber Music Festival (Israel), Komitas Festival (Germany), the National Gallery Festival (Armenia) and Andrzej Nikodemowicz International Festival – Time and Sound (Poland), UStream Festival (Austria)
Mykhaylo has attended the master-classes of Alberto Lysy, Sergey Kravchenko, Mihaela Martin, Pavel Vernikov, Igor Ozim and Pierre Amoyal.
As soloist, he performed with the Kharkiv Philharmonic Orchestra (Ukraine), Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra (Croatia), Camerata Helvetica St. Gallen (Switzerland), Odessa National Philharmonic Orchestra (Ukraine), Kyiv Camerata.
He is an active chamber musician who has performed together with such prominent musicians as Boris Kuschnir, Julian Rachlin, Nikolai Znaider, Alexey Igudesman, Jasminka Stancul, Gérard Caussé, Nobuko Imai, Franz Helmerson, Miklós Perényi and Orfeo Mandozzi in many countries of the world.
In 2019, Mykhaylo had a successful debut at Konzerthaus Vienna with new founded Lyatoshinsky Trio.
