Olena Yeremenko — nyckelharpa

General information

Born in Kropyvnytskyi, to a family of musicians. In 1998, she successfully graduated from the Kirovohrad Music School, and then, in 2004, graduated from Lviv National Music Academy in the class of N. P. Poslavska. Even during her studies in educational institutions, she tried different styles of music. She played in the progressive-rock band “Ichthyander Dad’s Only Dolphin”, the grunge-rock band “Viranda”, as well as in the Lviv band “Pravo na Kazku”.

In 2002, she founded the Lviv Folk Band “Burdon” with whom she collaborated until May 2018 and recorded four albums: “Re:Karpatia” (2006), “Vam Koliadochka” (2006), “Taystra Chuhaystra” (2008), “Divytsia” (2013). In 2007, she participated in the international Swedish-Ukrainian project SWIЖE, financed by the Swedish Institute (SI). In 2008, she received a scholarship from the Swedish Institute Visby Program and from September to December she studied at Malungs Folkhogskolan in the class of Swedish folk violinist Kalle Almlöf.

In 2012, she implemented a grant from the Polish Gaude Polonia Institute under the guidance of prof. Maria Pomyanovska. She collaborated with such bands as “Caci Vorba”, “Poszukiwacze Zaginionego Rulonu” (Grand Prix award at the Polish Radio Nowa Tradycja festival, 2012), “Arcus Polonaie”, “Babooshi”, “Kurbasy”, “Tatosh Banda”, Ulyana Gorbachenska’s “Solospivy” project (2011-2012). In 2012-2015, she collaborated with the International Center of Theatrical Practices “Hardzenice” as an actress and musician.

Member of the bands “Dzikie Jablka” (Poland), “Sprinkle Blizzard” (Poland-Ukraine-Belgium-Austria), “ROOMs Ensemble” (Ukraine-Poland-Sweden-Moldova).

Cooperates with the Artistic Group of Storytellers “Grupa Studnia O”, with whom she creates musical coloring of fairy tales from different countries of the world for children and adults. In 2014-2021, she collaborated with the early music ensemble “Orkiestra Czasow Zarazy”, with whom she recorded two albums: “Telemann’s Poland” (2014) and “Still Polonaise” (2018). Since 2016, he has been a member of the International Nyckelharpa Community and conducts nyckelharpa masterclasses in Germany. In 2018-2020, she co-created the international project “Building Bridges Through Music”, which takes place every year in the city of Ascona, Switzerland. Since 2021, Olena Yeremenko has been collaborating with the “Wrocław Pieśń Kozła Theater”, the “Karolina Ćicha i Spółka” band and the “Kapela Niwinskich” ensemble.

She presented concerts in such countries as Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, China, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Finland, Iran, Uzbekistan, Russia, Belarus, Serbia, Croatia. Lives in Warsaw since 2012.
