Sebastian Kuczyński – organ

General information

Sebastian Kuczynski began his musical education at the age of thirteen in his hometown, at the State Music School of the First and Second Degree in Suwałki, attending the organ class of Ewa Wołczek for 6 years. He graduated from this school externally in 2019 with the professional title of instrumental musician in organ.
In October 2016, he began full-time undergraduate studies at the Department of Piano, Harpsichord and Organ of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw (class of Jarosław Wróblewski and Wojciech Bednarski), which he completed with a very good result in 2019, obtaining the title of Bachelor of Music in organ performance. During his studies, he also completed a pedagogical study, taking internships in Warsaw music schools of the first and second degree.
He then continued his education at his alma mater’s Master’s degree programme in instrumental studies – organ class of Jarosław Wróblewski and Wojciech Bednarski, and church music – organ class of Piotr Wilczyński, improvisation class of Michał Markuszewski and Damian Skowroński, which he completed in 2021.
In the 2018/2019 academic year, he studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in the organ class of Wolfgang Zerer, as well as in the harpsichord and clavichord by Menno van Delft. He went to Germany to study under the international student exchange programme Erasmus+. In the following year, he also completed postgraduate studies in “Music Manager” at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.
Sebastian Kuczynski has been awarded numerous prizes for his educational results, activities and artistic achievements; including the Podlaskie Province Marshal’s Scholarship (2015), the Art-SOS Foundation Alicja Roszkowska scholarship twice (2016, 2017) and three times a scholarship awarded by the Polish Children’s Aid Committee in Montreal (2018, 2019, 2020).
He has participated in numerous competitions, in which, among others, he won first prizes at the 7th National Organ Competition in Olsztyn (2015), the 9th National Organ Competition in Krasnobrod (2016), the 2nd National Improvisation Competition in Legnica (2021), or the 9th International Jean Sibelius Instrumental Music Competition in Turku (Finland-2021).
Throughout his education, Sebastian Kuczyński has been raising his qualifications by taking part in numerous workshops. He has participated in many master courses in organ interpretation and
and organ improvisation conducted by world-famous musicians and pedagogues, such as: Peter Planyavsky, Balys Vaitkus, Hans Fagius, Bernhard Haas, Gerhard Gnann, Ben van Oosten, Menno van Delft, Christophe Mantoux, Julian Gembalski or Józef Serafin.
Originator, coordinator and artistic director of the Cycle of Organ and Chamber Recitals “Pro Arte et Studio”, as well as the International Mokotow Festival of Organ and Chamber Music, organized by the parish of St. Andrew Bobola in Warsaw.
As a soloist and chamber musician, within the framework of international festivals of organ and He has performed in Poland, Germany, Austria, Belarus and Lithuania. He gave concerts e.g. as part of the 9th International Organ Forum in Warsaw, or the 6th International Festival of Organ and Chamber Music named after Franz Liszt in Żagań. He performs in an organ duo together with Roksana Kalinowska.
He has collaborated with esteemed ensembles such as the Concert Orchestra of the Representative Artistic Ensemble of the Polish Army.
Since 2016, he has been working as organist of the National Sanctuary, St. Andrew Bobola parish in Warsaw.
