The tenth edition of the International New Music Masterclasses COURSE at the Lviv Philharmonic has come to an end. From August 2024 until March 1, 2025, young composers underwent selection, wrote new compositions for a chamber ensemble, communicated with event mentors and performers from Ensemble Nostri Temporis, and presented their works during the final week of the project—the active phase of the masterclasses from February 17 to 22.
On February 22, in the Lyudkevych Concert Hall, Ensemble Nostri Temporis—Natalia Kozhushko-Maksymiv (flute), Taras Hamar (clarinet), Andriy Pavlov (violin), Nazarii Stets (double bass), Maksym Shadko (piano)—performed world premieres of works by Yelyzaveta Voloshyna, Anna Hurina, Maksym Ivanov, Denys Kucher, and Fedir Pershko.
Following an intense discussion, event mentors Alla Zagaykevych (Ukraine), Sławomir Wojciechowski (Poland), and Luxa (Germany) selected two participants to receive a special commission for the creation of a new composition for a chamber ensemble. As a result, Yelyzaveta Voloshyna and Anna Hurina will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Lviv Philharmonic, gain new experience, and present their works at the 31st International Festival of Contemporary Music “Contrasts,” which will take place in September-October 2025.
The project is co-funded by the European Union’s “Creative Europe” program in cooperation with the Ulysses Platform. The COURSE masterclass project is designed for a three-year implementation.
The next competition selection for the masterclasses will be announced in the spring of 2025.
