Two worlds of symphonism: on the one hand self-absorption, internal excitement of human soul, its fears and delight (Schumann), but on the other hand vivid world of Afro-Cuban traditional rituals (Revueltas) and Russian Puppet Theatre (Stravinsky).
The existence of Robert Schumann’s violin concert had been a secret for decades because Joseph Joachim, to whom was dedicated the author’s work, believed that this music was affected by the composer’s mental illness. Only in 1930s the work was heard completely.
In the work “Sensemayá” a Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas by means of complex syncopation rhythms transmits Afro-Cuban ritual of snake sacrifice.
The main characters of ballet “Petrushka” by Igor Stravinsky are puppets – the composer shows confluence of surreal and real, “puppet” and “human”.
