Andrukhovych & Karbido. Radio Night

An authorial audio performance with a unique structure that combines performative reading and electroacoustic improvised music.

Andrukhovych and the trio Karbido (with the help of more than a dozen instruments) create their own musical-literary experiment, juggling contemporary aesthetics, genre clichés, and the sonic memory of musical avant-garde.

The central narrative motif of the piece is the story of a musician who fights against a regime on the side of a revolution, and after its defeat, while hiding in an unknown shelter (or perhaps in a prison), discovers a secret night-time radio station in his search for a further meaning of existence. The backdrop of the action is the era of the pandemic, climate protests, and Russian aggression — a time of radical and ultimate “to be or not to be.”

“Radio Night” is the newest joint work of the Ukrainian writer and the Polish musical formation, which in an unexpected way continues their nearly 20-year collaboration, transcending the boundaries of stereotypical literary-musical cooperation and approaching a live-performed musical radio drama.
