On the eve of Ukraine’s State Flag Day and Independence Day, we are proud to represent our country on the international stage. One of the important distinctions we have “brought” to Ukraine is a Latin Grammy Award.
In November, music producer and conductor Serhii Khorovets and guitarist and soloist Rafael Serralle received the award after recording together with the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv National Philharmonic. Y El Canto de Todas — a recording of works by outstanding Latin American women composers — was named Best Instrumental Album. The prestigious award came to Ukraine for the first time, marking a historic event in the world of music!
On 22 August, the orchestra under the baton of Serhii Khorovets will perform works from the award-winning album, alongside Ukrainian classics — the Suite from Anatolii Kos-Anatolskyi’s ballet The Goldfinch’s Wing and Lev Kolodub’s Frescoes of Ancient Kyiv. As the concert’s conductor, Serhii Khorovets, recalls: “Lev Kolodub was my teacher of instrumentation. He did not talk very much, but he gave me the opportunity to become acquainted with his works. When I introduced these works to the orchestra, the musicians came alive! They so enjoyed playing his orchestral suites and overtures.”
Rafael Serralle will also return to Lviv especially for this event. Emotion and passion, and beyond them, a depth of feeling: these are the threads running through the programme of this special evening. Its uniqueness lies in the combination of orchestra and solo guitar, an instrument renowned for its ability to portray the most intimate human thoughts and desires. This time, Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez for Guitar and Orchestra will be performed, bringing together a festive carnival dance, a passionate and desperate cry, and, of course, a love romance.
