When reading biographies of famous artists or watching movies about classical musicians, listeners often imagine them composing large-scale symphonies, or at least concertos for soloists and orchestra. However, what would be the result if composers approached popular songs with the same responsibility as they do multi-movement symphonic works? Ahead of the fantasy, we invite you to a song evening with one of the leading Ukrainian contemporary composers, Viktor Kaminskyi.

Viktor Kaminskyi works in a wide variety of styles and genres, including symphonies and fantasies on the themes of famous songs; music in the Baroque style and modern experiments. The secret of the success and charm of Viktor Kaminskyi’s songs for over thirty years is that Kaminskyi has never treated the “light” genre as inferior to the academic sphere. He is convinced that a professional composer should approach popular songs with the same degree of creativity and respect as a symphony.

It is not for nothing that in an interview Kaminsky said this about his creative position: “It is very interesting to turn to genres that are very different in their functions, because music for me is not an abstract sphere at all, it is connected with our daily life and should not just “serve” it, but also add brighter shades to the gray everyday life.”
