Is music a substitute for reality, or can it awaken us from a long sleep and oblivion? Today Ukrainians live in hope for the light after darkness, the victorious morning, the national resurrection. On September 27, at the UNESCO Cultural Hub, a unique program will be performed for the first time in Ukraine by Maciej Frąckiewicz. He is one of the leading accordionists of his generation, whose career embraces solo, chamber, and orchestral performances. A special place in his work is devoted to collaboration with composers and the premiere of new music: to date, he has introduced more than 80 works, written by, among others, Krzysztof Penderecki, Zygmunt Krauze, Dariusz Przybylski, Wojciech Błaszczak, and Aleksander Nowak.

At the beginning of his artistic path, Frąckiewicz became the first accordionist in history to reach the finals of the Eurovision Young Musicians competition, which brought him wide recognition on the Polish scene. Among important milestones are his victory at the International Accordion Competition “Arrasate Hiria” in Spain (2012), the prestigious “Polityka Passport” award (2013), as well as the GWK Competition in Germany (2015), which opened the way to new concert performances and recordings.

A special highlight of the concert will be Vsiakomu horodu by Oleksandr Shchetinsky. It is based on a melody attributed to Hryhorii Skovoroda — an outstanding Ukrainian philosopher and poet of the 18th century. The accordionist is required to silently, almost as if speaking to himself, recite or sing several lines from the poem “Vsiakomu horodu nrav i prava” while simultaneously playing the corresponding phrases with his left hand.
