Program

Two giants of Ukrainian music of the twentieth century will appear in this programme: the dramatic and spectacular symphonist, the founder of Ukrainian modernism, Liatoshynskyi, and the elegant, admirer of folklore, the founder of the Ukrainian conducting school of Kolessa.

Mykola Kolessa as an outstanding musician, proved himself not only in composing. The artist constantly performed as a conductor: his contemporaries remembered him as a talented interpreter of music of various styles and genres. Kolessa was one of the founders of the Lviv Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, as well as the conductor of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theatre, and worked as the artistic director and conductor of the Trembita Choir. This evening, his music will return to his native hall and will be the centerpiece of a symphonic program by the Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Volodymyr Syvokhip.
