At the time of the XVI-XVII centuries, English music gave the world prominent artists — the subtle and poetic John Dowland (1563–1626) and Henry Purcell (1659–1695). Also among the figures of English music, you can rightfully find George Frideric Handel (1685–1759) — a German by birth, for whom England became a second home and created extraordinary conditions.
Dowland, Purcell and Handel represent different historical periods and, hence, various directions of the English Baroque. However, nowadays their works are perceived in another way and resonate deeply with current Ukrainian events.
This program reflects our deep gratitude to Great Britain and its people, who are standing side by side with Ukraine in the fight against the russian invaders, who share our pain, being not afraid to speak up.

“Ukraine–2022. Muses Are Not Silent” is a series of digital chamber concerts organized by Myroslav Skoryk Lviv National Philharmonic in support of Ukrainian musicians during the russian armed aggression. Online concerts will become a platform for the uniting of the Ukrainian music community, as many musicians participating in these concert programs have become internally displaced people and have found shelter in Lviv.
We provide a free opportunity for the whole world to watch concerts on the official YouTube channel of the Lviv National Philharmonic. At the same time, we suggest our listeners from abroad make charitable donations to Ukrainian musicians who have stayed here in Ukraine.
