Program

The gaze of the piano recital program is turned to the past. The time range of the program is two centuries of European music development. During its history, the piano specially played the role of an instrument composers directly expressed their personal experiences through. This can be seen even by the names — fantasies, impromptu, intermezzo and “reminiscence”. The improvisational nature of these genres, especially in the era of Romanticism, provides the free treatment of the piece form. However, each of the authors in small works strived to be comprehensive and deep, vividly depicting whether emotionally experienced impressions, or fascinating stories, or characteristics of national culture.

The style of Nestor Nyzhankivskyi, noted by another Ukrainian classical composer, Vasyl Barvinsky, is worth mentioning: “As he himself said, he belonged to the group of Ukrainian composers who tried to show the musical core of the Ukrainian people in the best possible way with the help of the newest means of musical expression.” Echoes of Ukrainian folk songs, successfully reinterpreted in the author’s subtle, free texture, unfolding the wide sound space of piano miniatures, can be heard in typical romantic fineness of melody.
