In Rochester, New York, on January 31, as part of a large-scale tour of the United States of America, the Lviv National Philharmonic Academic Symphony Orchestra performed together with the legendary violinist Oleh Krysa. Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 was performed under the baton of principal conductor Theodore Kuhar.
The concert on the stage of the famous Kodak Hall at Eastman Theater became a unique and memorable event, as it was 65 years ago that violinist Oleh Krysa first performed with the Lviv Academic Symphony Orchestra.
“This cooperation has always been productive. I often played with the orchestra in Lviv and I am extremely happy that in this beautiful city of Rochester, where I now live, we met again. The orchestra is in excellent shape. I am very glad for the fact that we have been collaborating creatively for so long,”, famous violinist says.
The violinist has been living in the USA for almost 30 years. Since 1988, he has been a professor at the Ukrainian Music Institute in the USA (New York), and a professor at the Eastman School of Music (Conservatory) at the University of Rochester. And the musician spent his childhood and school years in Lviv. In 1971, the violinist made his American debut at Carnegie Hall. The New York Times described this performance as one that could “make a violinist’s reputation had he come without one”.

He played Felix Mendelssohn‘s famous Violin Concerto, and Violin Concerto No. 5 “The Unanswered Question” by Yevhen Stankovych, written especially for the 75th anniversary of the outstanding Ukrainian violinist.
