In the first autumn month, it’s as if nature itself prompts new colors, emotions, and achievements. Musicians welcome the change of season with premiere programs, which we proudly announce in September of the new 122nd season!
Sunday 1.09.2024 / 18:00. Music in Old Lviv | Missa
September will begin with the final concert of the 11th International Festival “Music in Old Lviv”, the highlight of which will be the performance of “Missa” by Latvian contemporary composer Peteris Vasks.
According to the composer: “Voices and strings sound so wonderful together because both sing – the choir sings, the strings sing – so it’s a double effect.” Ukrainian contemporary spiritual music will also be performed by the Galician Academic Chamber Choir and the Academic Chamber Orchestra “Lviv Virtuosos” conducted by Bohdan Prytula.
Wednesday 04.09.2024 / 18:00. Spiritual Elegy
We invite you to live through this incredible experience in the acoustic space of the foyer of the Lviv National Philharmonic. Olena Matseliukh and Sofia Okrutna together will create an exciting atmosphere thanks to the combination of the deep, powerful sound of the organ and the velvety, penetrating timbre of the cello.
In addition, Ukrainian composers reflected the richness of national culture in their works, combining various emotional palettes. This music will reveal both the light and dark sides of our history and life.
Friday 06.09.2024 / 19:00. Liudkevych: Music Room
Immerse yourself in the musical mood of one of the cultural centers of the city – the house of composer Stanislav Liudkevych, a native of Lviv, offered by famous Lviv musicians of today – the “Phoenix” String Quartet, pianist Olena Makarevych, and the soloist of the event – soprano Sofia Solovey.
“Music Room” is a chamber concert of the composer’s selected romances. Written throughout almost the entire hundred-year history of Liudkevych, dedicated to friends, these romances were created to share them with loved ones, to be immersed in the exquisite language of Ukrainian poets, and to feel their shimmering spiritual impulses.
Saturday 14.09.2024 / 18:00. Ground
We invite you to the opening of the 26th concert season of the INSO-Lviv Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra! An evening of sublime Ukrainian and Finnish music is waiting for you, which radiates love for the native land and fills you with life-giving force.
The symphonic luxury of the Rhapsody of the Ukrainian composer Levko Kolodub will be complemented by a true pearl of world classics – Symphony No. 2 by the Finnish composer Jan Sibelius, written in 1902. Sibelius said about the Second Symphony: “It is a confession of the soul”, and the Finnish public immediately called it “Patriotic” and even a “Symphony of Independence”. British conductor Paul Mann will conduct this evening.
Sunday 15.09.2024 / 18:00. Melodies with the coffee aroma
The program features forgotten masterpieces of Ukrainian songs by Ukrainian classics Bohdan Vesolovskyi, Anatoly Kos-Anatolskyi, and Volodymyr Ivasyuk. Famous soloists and instrumentalists: Iryna Dolia, Olha Tomkiv-Verkholyak, Vasyl Ponaida, Maria Stokolias, Andrii Havunka and Roman Mylian, accompanied by the “Zhyttia” Dance Theater, present the evening in a cozy atmosphere filled with the warm aroma of freshly brewed coffee.
Wednesday 18.09.2024 / 19:00. Вarocco incredibile
The program of the first concert of the season was called Barocco incredibile by the Early Music Ensemble Terra Barocca. This is a kind of preamble to the following programs. What is special about it? During the planning of the new season, each of the performers offered their favorite piece. So this evening you will be able to hear the instrumental music of the XVII-XVIII centuries of various European schools for very different sets of instruments.
A sonata for four instruments by the Italian composer Arcangelo Corelli, and music by German masters Georg Friedrich Telemann, Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Muffat will be performed. We will go to England at the beginning of the 18th century with the violin sonata of Henry Eccles. To feel the atmosphere of Versailles, where dancing was almost the most popular way to pass the time, we will be helped by Jean-Ferry Rebel’s Suite, aptly named “Les Caractères de la Danse” (Characters of the Dance).
Over 30 years of activity, the collective has become one of the leading orchestras of the Lviv National Philharmonic and one of the best chamber orchestras in the country. The first concert of the anniversary season is dedicated to one of the most fateful collaborations in the history of the orchestra – the collaboration with Myroslav Skoryk, because the already famous composer at the time of the creation of the orchestra not only supported the idea of the young team but also wrote for the “Lviv Virtuosos”, was a soloist at some concerts and even recorded a CD together!
Therefore, the opening program will feature selected works of the composer: spiritual and secular, with a recognizable Carpathian flavor and numerous allusions to the musical treasures of the past. All of them are united by the expressive and endless melodiousness of Skoryk as if the long song of human life continues to sound in the walls of the Philharmonic.
Sunday 22.09.2024 / 18:00. Ihor Zakus. I’m Alive
Ihor Zakus is an artist whose music is always especially sensitive, often vulnerable, and sincerely imbued with spirituality. For him, the most important thing is always a melody that tells a story, decorated using electric and acoustic instruments, placed on a colorful groove. For Zakus, music is the language in which he conveys his thoughts, tells about feelings and experiences.
Sunday 22.09.2024 / 11:30. Forest Music School. The First Bell
The Forest Music School is a special magical place where everyone can touch the magical world of music. It is there that the famous sound boy Dzen-Boom, who now living on planet Earth, has decided to add to his musical baggage of knowledge, is hurrying to study there.
In the forest school, as in a real music school, there are special music classes led by special teachers and mentors. After “passing” such a class, everyone will receive a special mark and, most importantly, the skills and knowledge to graduate with honors and receive a “gold medal” as a graduate. Also, before each concert, at 11:00 a.m., fun interactive activities from the Music Development Center “TEMPO” will await young listeners.
Wednesday 25.09.2024 / 19:00. Bach. Coffee Cantata
Today, few of us can imagine our morning without fragrant coffee! The great composer was also not indifferent to this magical drink, because his cute musical joke in support of one of the Leipzig coffee houses not only caused a real furor among the audience of that time, but is still heard in various concert halls, giving pleasure to coffee lovers and music lovers!
Therefore, we invite all our like-minded people in music and coffee matters to come to our hall to enjoy a vivid theatrical reading of this elegant piece, exquisite music and, of course, a cup of coffee together with the Chamber Orchestra of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Philharmonic! Unsurpassed soloists, ballet and chamber orchestra are looking forward to this atmospheric meeting with you, dear friends! So come to a cozy evening full of interesting surprises!
Thursday 26.09.2024 / 19:00. Symphonic Evening
The continuum of impressions of a lonely traveler in Felix Mendelssohn’s “Hybrids” Overture, a protest against contemporary musical trends in Jan Sibelius’s Fourth Symphony, philosophical reflections on the modernity of our contemporary Yevhen Stankovych, and the most characteristic rhythms of Bohemia and Moravia in Antonin Dvořák’s “Slavic Dances” will come to life in the program from the Academic symphony orchestra of the Lviv National Philharmonic under the direction of Theodore Kuchar. Therefore, we invite you to experience for yourself the impression made by a wide variety of symphonic music performed by professionals.
