On January 10, at 19:30, the Warsaw Philharmonic INSO-Lviv will perform Thomas de Hartmann’s Violin Concerto, as well as music by Skoryk, Silvestrov, and Stankovych in a program of works by Ukrainian composers.
The premiere of de Hartmann’s violin concerto will be broadcast live on the leading classical music channel medici.tv, and soon the recording of the event will be shown to the Netflix audience.
Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell, along with BBC Music’s Personality of the Year 2023, conductor Dalia Stasevska and the renowned INSO-Lviv Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv Philharmonic, will present a charity concert for Ukraine.
The program will feature works by Ukrainian composers: Thomas de Hartmann’s Violin Concerto, Myroslav Skoryk’s Melody, Valentyn Silvestrov’s Anthem, and Yevhen Stankovych’s Symphonietta.
Here’s what Bell had to say about the event: “I am honored to be a part of the ongoing efforts to bring Thomas de Hartmann’s works to life. When I first read his Violin Concerto, a work inspired by the hardships of war, I was deeply moved by its soulful beauty – and shocked that such a work has received so little recognition. The Concerto is both heartbreaking and uplifting, and it is as fascinating and relevant today as it was when it was written in 1943.
I am especially grateful to be recording and performing this work with such talented and dedicated creative partners as Dalia Stasevska and the INSO-Lviv Orchestra. Thanks to this project, Thomas de Hartmann’s music can touch the hearts of many people, both in his homeland of Ukraine and around the world.”
Ms. Stasevska, who has Finnish-Ukrainian roots and has repeatedly supported Ukrainians at the front, said: “When a country is fighting for its freedom, preserving and protecting the arts and culture that define its identity becomes vital. On January 10, I am looking forward to honoring some of Ukraine’s greatest composers with the incredible musicians of the INSO-Lviv Orchestra and the well-known artist Joshua Bell. It will be a great honor for me to release the world premiere recording of Thomas de Hartmann’s rich and inspiring violin concerto for audiences around the world to hear. As the war continues, we continue to keep Ukraine in our hearts.”
