Event of the XX Lviv Early Music Festival

Famous German musician Norbert Rodenkirchen will conduct the master classes for Ukrainian flautists, and improvisation sessions with Lviv musicians (Vsevolod Sadovyi, multi-instrumentalist, composer) at the Experimental Studio of Electroacoustic Music (EESEM) of the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Academy of Music

He will also give a lecture with the title: New Sounds in Early Music / Ancient Sounds in New Music.

As part of the creative laboratory, together with Norbert Rodenkircher, the well-known Lviv musician-multi-instrumentalist Vsevolod Sadovyi will be a participant in educational lectures-presentations that will familiarise listeners with issues of contemporary techniques in ancient music, and early music techniques in contemporary music.

The research focuses on natural patterns of early musical practices: interest in sound creation, instrumentation, musical form – as a reflection of cultural evolution and development of mindset.

On the example of old and modern percussion and wind instruments, let’s talk about the timbre component and its analogies in the rhythmic organization of the musical process: natural overtones, resonances, and rhythm – as features of ancient music in modern performance. Part of the meetings will be devoted to live issues of ensemble playing and free improvisation in early and modern music.

Another part of the Laboratory will be the studio work of musicians on a modern ensemble work on the themes of the Voynich manuscript: a specific controversial historical source will become the basis for a musical experiment on the practical interpenetration of ancient and modern performance techniques.
