Coming to Christ

On the 123rd anniversary of Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi’s enthronement as head of the UGCC

In memory of UGCC Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi, the Lviv National Philharmonic and the contemporary Ukrainian experimental theater “Theater in the Basket” have prepared a joint project – the performance “Coming to Christ!” with live accompaniment by famous musicians.

The textual basis of the play is the epistolary novel “Twelve Letters of Fr. Andrey Sheptytsky to his Mother” by Hryhor Luzhnytsky and fragments of the memoirs of Sofia Sheptytska, a member of the Fredriv family, “Youth and Vocation of Roman Sheptytsky.”

The plot focuses on the turning point when the young Roman Sheptytsky, future Metropolitan Andrey, decides to follow the spiritual path. The play can be understood by a person of any religion or denomination, because it is about the search for faith, the path to God, the realization of one’s mission in life and its non-renunciation. It is also about a high culture of feelings, both purely human and religious. The play was blessed by His Beatitude Lubomyr Cardinal Husar, the Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halych of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
