Program

Every year the Lviv National Philharmonic traditionally celebrates the birthday of the most significant and famous composer of all ages — Johann Sebastian Bach. The 2022 year honours the 337th anniversary of his “reign” over music, and on this occasion, the festival “Virtuosos” presents a program of his most known works. Bach’s solo partitas are a priceless contribution to the violin repertoire. The program will feature the famous “Chaconne” where the technical tasks set by the author are not inferior to invention and intonation diversity, the development of a cycle of variations.

The greatness of Bach’s imagination was denoted by the Concerto for Violin and Strings, and the Concerto for Oboe, Violin and Chamber Orchestra. Taking all the best from the virtuosity and the form of Vivaldi’s concerts, Bach creates masterpieces with his own harmonic language and subtle polyphony. Finally, one of the most notable in its genre, the Cantata “Ich habe genug” (“I have enough”) in five parts, deserves special attention. The oboe’s constant elegiac accompaniment emphasizes the magnificent, serene nature of the composition, which was written and first performed in honour of the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
