The busiest day of the festival runs from afternoon into late evening, bringing together three events in three different spaces. You can come for a single part of the Marathon, or go the whole distance and lose track of time as the day slips gradually into night.

The Marathon opens with accordionist Ruslan Horbachenko, in a programme drawn entirely from Ukrainian music of the past two decades.

The second part of the Marathon is an act of remembrance. Ferdinando Nazzaro’s String Quartet is performed in memory of the composer, who passed away only days ago. A Roman by birth and a professor at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory, Nazzaro was closely tied to Lviv for many years: he worked as principal conductor of the Lviv Symphony Orchestra, taught in the city, and it was here that he founded KLKnewmusic — an association that brought composers from around the world together for concerts and recordings in partnership with the Lviv Philharmonic. His quartet is heard alongside Myroslav Skoryk’s String Quartet (1958) and Petro Titiaiev’s Bagatelles (2019–2023).

The day closes with an electronic set by Lviv sound artist eyehol3. After an afternoon and evening of acoustic sound, the Marathon moves into a darkened hall and synthesized textures — because new music doesn’t end where the concert stage does.
