Wholeness, anxiety, fear, respect and even lust can awaken the past in us. Flowing with the currents of the inevitable, our thoughts strive to cling to the age-old, stable, reliable. This is how the desire to touch ancient eras is born. To awaken centuries-old manuscripts to find hope for one’s future in the experience of the past.

The 21st edition of the Festival of Ancient Music in Lviv is a life-affirming continuation of the enthusiasm of the founder of the festival — Roman Stelmashchuk and all those who continued his work, who shared hopes for the development of historical performance in Lviv. In 2023, the memory of Roman Stelmashchuk continued in a new group – the Early Music Ensemble “Terra Barocca”, founded by a permanent participant of the festival, harpsichordist Anna Ivaniushenko. In their concert programs, musicians explore ancient music through the prism of feelings, emotions, and impressions, so it was not by chance that the theme of hope was chosen for the first event of the festival.

In ancient times, it was believed that “As long as a person lives, he should live even with the slightest hope.” Isn’t the main meaning of art now to give hope, even the slightest? The musicians of the ensemble believe in the therapeutic value of baroque melodic figures, the emotionality and effectiveness that impresses the music of the time. In the sound of “Terra Barocca”, works written centuries ago by Georg Philipp Telemann, Georg Friedrich Handel, Giovanni Battista Martini, Nicolas Mattheis, Marin Marais and Antonio Vivaldi will come to life.
