For more than a century, the stage of the Lviv Philharmonic has been the first coveted stage for many prominent musicians. Their debuts here have given them a variety of experiences: exciting and nervous, joyful and enthusiastic.

No one knows what exactly the first steps on the stage of the soloists of this concert will be like, but we assure you that the evening will leave pleasant memories. Bach Marathon March 21-24

Every year, in honor of Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthday, the Lviv National Philharmonic holds the BachMarathon. As you know, most of the world celebrates the composer’s birthday on March 21, according to the old calendar, because Protestant Germany adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1700 with the agreement that all dates would remain valid until the year 1699.

Thursday 21.03.2024 / 19:00. BACH Marathon. 22 children of Bach

Mozart once said: “Bach is the father, and we are his children.” And although he was talking about Carl Philipp Emanuel at the time, today we would like to emphasize the eternity of Bach’s figure and how his presence imperceptibly and strongly influences modern life: all the music we know is marked by his influence, all our musicians grew up with his work, all the vital topics are covered in this boundless synergy of the Baroque genius and the master.

Attend this concert and perhaps there will be more of us in the list of Bach’s heirs.

Friday 22.03.2024 / 19:00. BACH Marathon. Vivace

The second concert of the marathon, which will take place this year at the Lviv National Philharmonic, will be held in the Vivace tempo. More than 300 years ago, this tempo symbolized a rather moderate movement – just to make you feel like a full-fledged master of the situation, nevertheless move in it quite dynamically.

At a comfortable pace, the selected pieces of the program will prompt you with new solutions and insights for your own non-musical projects, or, on the contrary, help you relax in the moment. This is the music of Bach – inseparable from our reality and powerful over it even through the ages.

Saturday 23.03.2024 / 18:00. BACH Marathon. Bach is smiling

…And Bach is smiling. He is happy… His music is played in the best concert halls of the world, in churches, on cell phones… No other composer has received such great attention from fellow musicians who enjoy creating their own arrangements, processing and “cover versions” – from classical to jazz – of the famous themes of the German Genius. And our concert is a confirmation of this. The works of Johann Sebastian Bach will be performed in interesting and extraordinary, multi-style and “driving” arrangements by Andriy Yatskiv and Serhiy Gurin. We are excited! And Bach is smiling…

Tuesday 26.03.2024 / 19:00. Perpetuum Mobile

If you close your eyes and listen to the first of the pieces on this program on the accordion, a truly special instrument, you might think that a mighty organ is playing. Or an entire orchestra. Because the timbre possibilities of the accordion, namely its register nature, allows you to perform a wide variety of music from different eras and genres and instruments completely different from the accordion, as it seems at first glance.

Today, there is a vivid tendency to expand the accordion repertoire, so you will hear both arrangements and original compositions by the young talented musician Denys Snigiriov.

Thursday 28.03.2024 / 19:00. Memory about City

London, Prague, Mariupol – once upon a time, these names could have been placed on a traveler’s map, in a note with vacation plans, or in a photo album. Nowadays, we often remember them in a different context: cities that help, shelter, support, or wait for us to return. The program of the Lviv Virtuosos Academic Chamber Orchestra and conductor Parviz Yahyavi will be connected to these cities.

The concert will begin with Zoltan Almasshi’s City of Mary, which tells the story of a city that defended itself to the last, in which there was less fear than courage, and despair than hope. The concert will continue with one of the best classical instrumental serenades – Serenade by English composer Edward Elgar, which has become not only a landmark work in the composer’s oeuvre but also one of the gems of British music. In the best traditions of orchestral evenings, the orchestra will end the concert with hope and bright moods, presented by one of the best instrumental serenades in the history of music – Antonin Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings in E major.

Friday 29.03.2024 / 19:00. Tree of Life

An evening of the most diverse classical music performed by soloists, choir and symphony orchestra will not leave anyone indifferent: this is how the mighty Symphony of Life grows from the first, fragile single sounds.

In this program, one of the composers has the name of the main villain from the Sherlock Holmes universe. No more intrigues, but still a lot of interesting things: this evening, the famous overture from the opera The Thief of Magpie by Italian Gioacchino Rossini and the contemporary symphony The Tree of Life by American composer Richard Moriarty will be performed in a free-spirited manner. The distance between the works is more than two centuries, and each author has put his own principles and beliefs into the sound of these compositions, which are worthy of attention.
